Updates to Patrona Flexi Car and Flexi Van

  • Flexi Car Product - Driving of Other Cars

With effect from 1st August 2014, Driving of Other Cars cover and wording will be amended.  This will affect all New Business, Renewals and Mid Term Adjustment (where a new certificate is required) with an effective date of 1st August 2014.

The following wording is removed from Driving of Other Cars:

“Driving other cars extension up to 2000cc”

The cover is now improved as per the following:

Driving (by the policyholder) of any other private car is available based on the policy Star rating, as summarised in the table below, provided that such vehicle is not:

-         Owned by the policyholder

-         Hired under a hire purchase agreement or under a contract of lease-hire or contract hire

-         Registered and being driven outside of the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Great Britain, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.

-         There is no other insurance in force which covers the same risk or situation; and

-         The policyholder has the owner’s permission to drive the car; and

-         The policyholder still has the insured car and it has not been damaged beyond economic repair

In the case of a Five Star 5* Product the following conditions will also apply;

-         This extension will not apply to cars with a market value in excess than €75,000

Driving of other cars cover only applies where the policyholder is a natural person, therefore excluding limited companies, partnerships or any similar legal entity

  • Flexi Car and Flexi Van – Open Driving

With effect from 1st August 2014, our open driving will no longer include Provisional Licence holders.  This will affect New Business, Renewals and Mid Term Adjustment (where Open Drive is being added) with an effective date of 1st August 2014.

Open drive certificate wording will be amended to:

Any person between the age of 25 and 75 years of age with a Full EU driving licence driving with the Insured’s consent, the vehicle described in 5 (a) above provided that the person driving holds a licence to drive such vehicle or, having held such a licence, is not disqualified from holding such a licence.

We are still considering named drivers holding a Provisional Licence where they fit our driver age criteria.
